Register Protocol Handler

Register Protocol Handler

This page describes how to register the protocol handler in Pathfinder for bookmarks.

Enabling this allows you to share the bookmark links of your bookmarked positions.

You can share the links with any user in the same license group.

Bookmarks: Register Protocol handler

The bookmarks: Register protocol handler is implemented as a simple mapping between the protocol scheme and a shell command in the registry.

When the protocol is invoked by the browser, it simply bundles up the URL and passes it on the command line to the target application.

For a protocol handler to call the bookmark URL links from Pathfinder in the web browsers, register the handler from Program settings in Options by clicking on Register protocol handler (1).

The bookmark URL is in the format “pathfinder://type=location&value=<string>” and can be found in the properties dialog (2) of all locations, infrastructures and components.

The registry key can be found in registry editor under Computer\HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Pathfinder.

Once the protocol handler has been registered, the bookmark link can be entered into the browser. A popup will be displayed asking the user to confirm that they wish to handle the specified scheme in Pathfinder. Click on Open Pathfinder (3) to execute.

It is supported in: Firefox, Google chrome, Microsoft Edge and Windows Explorer.

It is not supported in: Command line, PowerShell and Windows search.
