Cable types are templates for the connection of patch cables. In a cable type, basic cable features are defined, which include:

  • number of strands/fibers
  • visibility
  • strand or fiber type (e.g. copper, single mode or gradient fiber)
  • protocol/quality (e.g. speed, wave length)

You can assign any number of cable types to a cable definition. These will assist you in partitioning when placing cables.

Use the wizard manage cables to:

  • create new cable types
  • edit existing cable types
  • import cable types from the online catalog
  • delete cable types

Please note that you cannot edit or delete cable types already in use.

Importing pre-defined cable types from the online catalog makes your network documentation easier. Please use the online catalog to avoid inconsistencies and data duplication.
