This page describes how to connect patch cables between components in Pathfinder using the drag and drop method.

There are multiple ways to create network cabling in Pathfinder but they all fall under either the (1:n) or (n:n) connection rule. The patch cabling can be done from the cable management section or from the cabinet itself. In Pathfinder, there is always many different ways to do things.

Single Patching

First, a simple 1:1 single port connection. Simply drag and drop the source port on top of the destination port.

You can select and hold the source port (1) from a component and then drag and drop it on the destination port (2) of a component to begin the network connection.

Once you have selected the two ports, you can then select the cable definition (3).

Since both the ports are Ethernet ports, the cable definition and naming rules are automatically selected for twisted pair patch cables.

Here you can also name your cable, check for the uniqueness of your cable name and print a barcode to label your physical network cable.

The connection overview is available here (4).

Once all the selections are complete, click on finish to complete your single network cable connection.

Multiple Patching

You can create (n:n) multiple network cable connection simultaneously by holding the left-click mouse button and dragging over the ports, or by holding down Left Shift or Ctrl button and clicking to select the ports.

To create multiple network connections between two components, selects the ports and click parallel patching.

Note that for parallel patching the number of source ports and destination ports must be same.

You can select the cable definition (1) and naming rule here.

You can select the specific cables for your individual connections (2).

You can filter through available information by right clicking on the column header (3).

You can also drag and drop the ports to rearrange port to port connections.

Show Patch Connections

To see active network connections and cables, right click outside the cabinet to bring up the context menu, go to View and select “Show all patch connections“.

To learn more about the other methods for creating network connections, go to: Cable Management.

Remove Cable Connection

To remove a cable connection, right click on the port you want to disconnect and select Remove patch.

In the next window, you can select the cables you want to remove. Select OK to continue and OK again to finish removing the cable connection.

Ports can conveniently be patched using drag&drop.

Open the cabinets you want to patch in between and select an idle port (colored blue). Drag it onto another idle port you want to connect it to. After you choose a patch cable you can finish the process.

You can also change connections, which have already been established. Drag a patched port onto an idle port for the idle port to take over the connection from the patched port. The other end of the patch connection is not changed.
