Access the function Manage port types via the catalog section on the Dashboard. First a list of all existing port types in the catalog is displayed. Port types not currently used in any component definition will appear italic. Using the respective function (1) new port types can be created or imported from the online catalog and existing ones can be deleted. To edit a port type just double click it. Via right click on a port type you can display all component definitions using it.

Please consider that port types can only be edited or deleted if they are not (or no longer) part of an existing component definition (device or cable). Moreover, Pathfinder helps you to check the precision fit (between two or more ports through a cable), e.g. it will not be possible to connect two RJ45 sockets with a USB cable because the port types are not compatible (number of pins).

Importing pre-defined port types from the online catalog makes your network documentation easier. Please use the online catalog to avoid inconsistencies and data duplication.

New port types can be imported from the online catalog. Before creating new port types, please check, if they already exist there. Select the port types you need and click on Import. Port types already existing in your local catalog will appear greyed out.

Once the import is done, the port type list is updated.

When creating a port type first enter the basic data like name, gender or pin count. Template provides an option to choose an image as the visual representation of the port type.

Editing a port type does not differ much from creating one. A similar dialog will open already containing the data of the selected port type.

After clicking Next you can define the mapping of the port type. Choose which port types (2) the newly created port type can be connected to. The mapping is utilized for patching and hooking up cables to ensure only compatible ports are connected. Click Finish to save your changes.
