In this page the steps to connect patch cables between passive-active and active-active components will be described.

There are multiple ways to create network cabling in Pathfinder but they all fall under either the (1:n) or (n:n) connection rule. The patch cabling can be done from the cable management section or from the cabinet itself. In Pathfinder, there is always many different ways to do things. Here, we will show you the simple drag and drop cabling method.

Drag and Drop: 1:1 port connection

First, a simple 1:1 port connection. You can select and hold the source port (1) from a component and then drag and drop it on the destination port (2) of a component.

You can also right click on a port and select single or parallel patching.

Once you have selected the two ports, you can then select the cable definition (3). Since both the ports are Ethernet ports, the cable definition and naming rules are automatically selected for twisted pair cables.

The connection overview is available below (4). Once all the selections are complete, click on finish to complete your single network cable connection.

Parallel Patching

You can also create multiple network cable connection simultaneously by holding the left-click mouse button and dragging over the ports, or selecting the ports with Left Shift or Ctrl button and clicking.

To create multiple network connections between two components, selects the ports and click parallel patching.

Note that for parallel patching the number of source ports and destination ports must be same.

It is important to select the cable definition (1) and cables for your individual connections (2). To filter through available information right click on the column header (3) and check the boxes.

To see active network connections and cables, right click outside the cabinet and select “Show all patch connections“ in View from the context menu.

To learn more about the other methods for creating network connections, go to: Cable Management

To hook up or patch cables, either select the matching function in the context menu (right click) of a port, or by returning to the Dashboard (1) and selecting the needed function (3&4) in the Cable Management section (2).

When hooking up a cable, first choose source and target ports. Use >> to copy information from source to target.

After clicking Next select a cable and a line definition, as well as the desired naming rule. Lastly click Complete to hook up the cable.

Patching works similarly in the corresponding dialog.
