This pages describes how to create cable definitions

Select the Create Component Definitions option from the catalog section.

You can create line installation and patch cable definitions here. In Pathfinder, line installation cables are unassembled cables that may contain one or multiple bundles of other cables. Patch cables are preassembled cables with only one bundle of twisted pair wires, optical fibers, hybrid, etc.

From the create component definitions window, select the Cable option to start creating your cable definitions.

In Pathfinder the cables can be categorized into two parts, line installation cables and patch cables.

Line Installation cables are unassembled cables. Which mean that neither ends have connector plugs attached for these type of cables. Line Installation cables are generally used for long distance connections between buildings and floors. Line Installation cables are generically placed between the rear side of patch panels. Line cables are usually placed inside trays. Line Installation cables can be made of optical fibers, copper or coaxial wires or a hybrid of both.

Patch cabled cables are preassembled cables. Which means that both ends have connector plugs attached for these type of cables. Patch cabled are generally used for short distance connections. Patch cables are generically placed on the front side ports of patch panels at connected with switches, routers, servers, end devices, etc.

Here you can assign a cable definition name, default instance name and a short note about the cable (1). You can also select if you want the cable to be unassembled or preassembled.

Click on the add button to add optical fibers or wires, based on your cable type, to your cable (2). Here you can select the fiber type, the number of bundles for that type and the number of fibers or wires per bundle for that type.

The total number of bundles in the cable and total number of optical fibers or wires are shown here as well.

Click on Next to see an overview of your fibers or wires, and again to see an overview of your bundles. If you have more than one bundle, your cable will be considered as a line cable and Now you will need to assign a line type to your cable.

Click on Next once again if you are creating a line installation cable to select the line definition, else click on Finish to complete creating your cable definition.
